I have been a trustee at Crossroads Care North West since my retirement in 2005 and became Chair three years later. Prior to my retirement I had a long career in the NHS in nursing, and was Director of Nursing at St Helens and Knowsley Hospitals NHS Trust for seven years before transferring to the Director of Nursing post at the Cheshire and Merseyside Strategic Health Authority. Whilst there my work involved assessing quality development across the area in both hospitals and community settings, and working with local universities to develop nursing courses which were relevant to the changing needs of the NHS.

I am also a Trustee at the St Helens Carers Centre viewing this as an asset to my role as Chair of Crossroads Care North West in that it gives a broader perspective of the needs of carers alongside that of providing practical supportive care.

In the past I was also a Trustee on the National Board of Crossroads during its merger with the Princess Royal Trust for Carers to become the Carers Trust. I have also participated in projects for the Carers Trust, the most recent being a review of the Carers Trust quality programme as part of its strategic aims.

I have two daughters both living in London with their families and I spend much of my time outside of my work with Crossroads Care North West  in London participating in the care of three active grandsons.
