The nice BMW bikes of yesteryear all got here with flat twin engines – that’s, one cylinder on all sides poking straight out sideways from middle – and this one is the most important Beemer ever at 1802 ccs of displacement. The engine is specified by a line, north-south, liquid-cooled with twin overhead cams, fuel injection and a ride-by-wire throttle. A six-speed handbook parses the throttle out, as if a transmission is even essential when you’re using something with 163 lb ft of torque.
Built by Sylva Autokits, a company that’s put together lots of very fast and successful track automobiles, they seem like they’ve another good one. Standard – the rider sits upright or leans forward barely. These are bikes that are not specialised to a minimum of one task, so they don’t excel in any specific area. The normal posture is used with touring and commuting in addition to dust and dual-sport bikes, and should offer advantages for novices.
